Our Youth

In Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church, He says, “Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your Father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land” (Eph 6:1-2), which means that churches are responsible to teach children to obey their parents and honor them. And how is it possible to teach children and youth to obey and honor their parents in the Lord?

The only way to teach children to obey and honor their parents in the Lord is to teach them the whole counsel of God. Paul’s command to children only comes at the end of the letter, after he has taught them a summary of biblical theology. Youth need to be taught the theology of the Bible in church along with practical application so that they can live lives that are honoring to Christ so that they can honor their parents.

In our youth ministry at First Baptist, we seek to emphasize:

  • The whole counsel of God revealed in the Bible
  • The centrality of Christ
  • The need for personal conversion to Christ
  • The reasons to believe in Christ
  • The necessity of holiness of life for all believers
  • The importance of the local church
  • The requirement of honoring their parents in the Lord
  • The mission of the church

Activities specifically geared for youth include:

  • Youth Sunday School at 9:30am
  • Wednesday night youth Bible study and prayer at 6:00pm
  • Occasional youth fellowships after afternoon worship on Sundays
  • Annual Summer Youth Camp
